Should I use paper or plastic tablecloths for the wedding reception?
I live in the Atlanta area. We have a small budget for our wedding reception. To rent a tablecloth for banquet size tables is a piece. We have 15 tables. I am not about to spend 0 dollars for tablecloths alone. We are only using clear plastic plates.
What is the best alternative to using linen tablecloths?

You can buy some nice plastic tablecloths, I think they would better than paper, you can buy them at Walmart for $5.and under.
we had to alternate between plastic and linen and the plastic looked awesome. just don’t use white-they tend to be see thru and ruin the look.
I think Plastic would be better as if there is a spill it can be easily cleaned up with a sponge or rag. You can get some nice plastic table clothes at the dollar store.
Plastic. Paper gets ruined when it gets wet and is just a pain.
Just a thought – you might want to confirm with your venue that it’s okay to provide your own tableclothes and check if they have any restrictions.
This is just a suggestion. I’ve often seen fabric for $1.00 a yd. at JoAnn’s and Walmart. Sometimes it’s clearance, sometimes it’s just extra stock. Three yards would cover a long banquet table, for $3.00. Maybe even less with a coupon. You might find something you like.
I would definitely choose plastic over paper! If something spills on the paper tablecloth it will start to rip and shred and just look icky. You can a roll of plastic tablecloths that you cut to fit at factory card outlet or party city (both have websites).
Got to walmart and buy 50 yards of fabric for 50 dollars.
Have someone sew them!
If you really want to save money and make it look great then go to the local craft store and pick up a few rolls of plastic tablecloth sheeting. There are a bazillion ways to wrap it and design with it but the trick is that you have to know how. You need to know how to use 2 different colors or just white and then you put a layer of table cloth and then if you know how to use a staple gun you can create draping accents and flowers along the edges. It’s not at all tacky if you know how but if you don’t know how – it can be really pathetic looking so find someone who is really crafty and get some help with this if you don’t know how to make it look nice.
Plastic tablecloths might be noisy, paper might be noisy too it things start to rip.
How big are your tables? You might be able to get fabric from a fabric store and cut them the size of your tables. Shouldn’t cost more than rental fees. The just wrap the tables in fabric. You could just pin or tape th ends to the bottom of the table so they don’t hang.
Between the two I’d say plastic will be more durable. The paper ones will be completely ruined as soon as someone spills a little something on them.
